Brief Biography-Edwin Austin Abbey was from Philadelphia, where he started work as an illustrator for magazines. In 1871, he moved to New York, where he did illustrations for several best-seller books. In 1783, he settled permanently in England and became a member of the Royal Academy, receiving a commission to paint the King Edward Coronation. One of his associates was John Singer Sargent. Some of his later works included murals for the Pennsylvania State Capitol. It was during his work on these murals that he died in 1911. John Singer Sargent completed one of his paintings. |
