Pieter Aertsen


1508-1575 Netherlands-Northern Renaissance

 

Brief Biography-Pieter Aertsen (nicknamed "Tall Peter") was from a family of artists in Amsterdam. His pupil and nephew was Joachim Beuckelaer another artist who was notable for the art of still-life painting. He did a considerable amount of his work in Antwerp which consisted of genre, biblical scenes and still-life. His style could be categorized as mannerism. The works of Joachim Patenier may have had some influence on his style. His sons Aert, Dirk and Pieter were also notable artists
