Carl Frederik von Breda

Brief Biography-Carl Frederik von Breda was from Stockholm, Sweden. He studied in England under portraitist Joshua Reynolds who influenced his work. Back in Sweden, he was a professor of the Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and he subsequently became portraitist for the Swedish Court. He was affectionately known as the Van Dyck of Sweden. Carl was from a family of artists; his grandfather Lucas was a painter as was his son Johan Fredrik.
