Dirck Dalens II

Brief Biography-Dirck Dalens II, the landscape painter, was born in Amsterdam and was tutored by his father, Willem. The artist Dirck Dalens I was his grandfather from whom he also received instruction. To avoid the strife of war, He moved to Hamburg in 1672 where he collaborated with the artist Johannes Voorhout who was leading a successful career there. When he returned to Amsterdam, his works were well received, and he was making a fruitful living when he sadly died at the early age of 29. The style of Melchior d' Hondecoeter influenced him. His son Dirck Dalens III who also became a painter, was born just after his death.
