Dirck Dalens II

1659-188 Holland/Baroque

Brief Biography-Dirck Dalens II, the landscape painter, was born in Amsterdam in 1659. His father, Willem, tutored him, and the artist Dirck Dalens I, his grandfather, also instructed him. To avoid the strife of war, He moved to Hamburg in 1672, where he collaborated with the artist Johannes Voorhout who was leading a successful career there. When he returned to Amsterdam, his works were well received, and he was making a fruitful living when he sadly died at the early age of 29. The style of Melchior d' Hondecoeter influenced him. His son Dirck Dalens III also became a painter.
