Dirck Dalens II

1659-188 Holland/Baroque

 

Brief Biography-Dirck Dalens II the landscape painter was born in Amsterdam and was tutored by his father Willem. The artist Dirck Dalens I was his grandfather whom he also received instruction from. To avoid the strife of war He moved to Hamburg in 1672 where he collaborated with the artist Johannes Voorhout who was leading a successful career there. When he returned to Amsterdam his works were well received and he was making a fruitful living when he sadly died at the early age of 29. He was influenced by the style of Melchior d' Hondecoeter. His son Dirck Dalens III who also became a painter was born just after his death.
