Alexandre Gabriel Decamps

1803-1860 France-Romanticism

 

Brief Biography-Alexandre Gabriel Decamps from Paris trained in the atelier of Etienne Bouhot and later under Alexandre-Denis Abel de Pujol. He traveled to Asia where he undertook Oriental subjects which gained him recognition at a Paris exhibition. He was awarded the Grand Council Medal of Honor and was considered to be one of the top French artists of his time. He was tragically killed when he was slung from his horse whilst on a hunt in Fontainebleau.
