Carlo Dolci
1616-1686 Italy/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-One Jacopo Vignali tutored Carlo Dolci of Florence at the early age of nine. His first central painting was of Saint John when he was at the age of eleven. He focused principally on religious subjects; however, he painted stills and portraits for patrons. Agnolo Bronzino bore an influence on his work. He was a slow painter and laboriously worked on a high finish in his paintings. He became distraught when he saw the rapid speed Luca Giordano could execute a picture. It adversely affected his mental health. Nevertheless, many of his works are still extant, particularly in Florence and England. |
