Duccio di Buoninsegna

c. 1255-c. 1316-19 Italy/Medieval

Brief Biography-Duccio di Buoninsegna was regarded the greatest of the Sienese artists. One of his most celebrated works was the Maestà for the high altar of the Siena Cathedral. It still survives however parts of it are in other countries. It is uncertain where he trained but it is considered he had a Byzantium influence. The Sienese School of painting, which equalled Florence, was forever swayed by his style.
