Willem Cornelisz Duyster

1599-1635 Netherlands-Baroque

 

Brief Biography-Willem Cornelisz Duyster of Amsterdam began his art career as a portraitist but quickly converted to genre scenes. He became dedicated to painting mostly guardroom and military scenes. He was a student and friend of the artist Pieter Codde but their friendship ended with a drunken brawl at a party. His talents were expected to equal that of great masters of his time however he was taken by the plague at the young age of thirty-six.
