Jacob Foppens van Es

c.1596-1666 Belgium/Baroque

 

Brief Biography-Jacob Foppens van Es the still-life artist was born in Antwerp. His paintings consisted of fruit and flowers, however painting fish was his specialty. He entered the Guild of Saint Luke in 1645 and enjoyed considerable respect amongst artists of his time. Jacob Jordaens worked with him on staffage and was a godfather to his children. Besides the Antwerp Museum, his paintings hang in Madrid, Vienna and Frankfort.
