Jacob Elias la Fargue

1735-c. 1771 Holland/Rococo

 

Brief Biography-Jacob Elias la Fargue was born in Voorburg, Holland. He was from a family of artists, his older brother Paulus Constantijn, being the better known. The other artists in the family were Maria Margaretha, Karel and Isaac Lodewijk. Jacob was influenced mostly by Paulus whom he worked with. He painted scenes in Haarlem, Amsterdam and Utrecht. In The Hague, where he also painted, he became a member of the Confrerie Pictura club. It was a club founded by artists who were discontented with the Guild of Saint Luke. He lived in The Hague for the remainder of his life.
