Heinrich Louis Theodor Gurlitt

1812-1897 Germany-Landscapes

 

Brief Biography-Heinrich Louis Theodor Gurlitt was Danish born and became German. He lived most of his life in Germany. He received his first lessons in drawing and painting at an early age in Hamburg, and later at the Copenhagen Academy where he exhibited many of his paintings. He made several trips to Sweden, Norway, Austria and Italy. He holidayed in Greece, Spain and Portugal and was inspired by many of the landscapes from these countries. He was married three times due to the death of his first two wives. The last years of his life were spent between Berlin-Steglitz and Naundorf, depending on the season. He had a son called Cornelius who became an art historian.
