Eero Järnefelt
1863-1937 Finland/Realism
|
Brief Biography-Eero Järnefelt was from Vyborg, Russia, part of Finland in 1863. His uncle Mikhail Klodt taught him at the Saint Petersburg Art Academy. In 1889 he married Saimi Swan, the subject of many of his paintings. The composer Jean Sibelius was married to his sister Aino. He spent roughly five years studying in Paris up to 1891 and was associated with the artist Gallén-Kallela. Bastien-Lepage and the style of plein-air made a great impression on his work. Most of his subject inspiration was from the region of Koli in North Karelia, where he lived in 1892. He took up teaching for the latter part of his life. |
