Brief Biography-Etienne Liotard was from Switzerland; born to French parents. He was notably a pastellist and studied in Geneva until 1723. He spent three years in Paris where one of his tutors was Francois Lemoyne. He travelled to Italy and painted a portrait of Pope Clement the Twelfth; from there he went on to the Greek islands and did chalk drawings of Eastern flavour.
