Nikolaos Lytras

1883-1927 Greece/Expressionist

 

Brief Biography-Nikolaos Lytras was taught at the School of Fine Arts, Athens, by his father Nikiforos and Georgios Jakobides. He went on to the Munich Academy of Fine Arts where the expressionist group, the Blaue Reiter, influenced him. After Munich, he participated in the Balkan Wars, in which he drew much inspiration. He became a founder member of the “The Art Group” after the war, which was a success in Greece. In 1923, he managed the Athens School of Fine Arts, which was a post he held for the remainder of his life.
