Bernat Martorell

c. 1400-1452 Spain/Early Renaissance

 

Brief Biography-Bernat Martorell of Barcelona was a disciple of Borrassà and a miniaturist in the International Gothic style influenced by Flemish art. Works by him ascertained are “Saint George Killing the Dragon” in the Art Institute of Chicago and the “Retable of Saint Pere de Púbol” in the Girona Art Museum. Jaume Huguet continued with his style but more decoratively.
