|
Brief Biography-It is perhaps best to describe Liubov Popova as an avant-garde artist. She embraced different outlooks of movements, including Cubism and Futurism. Popova was raised in a wealthy family near Moscow and was tutored at home at a very young age before going to the School of Painting and Drawing in Moscow. In 1912, she went the Académie de la Palette in Paris and studied under the cubist artist Henri Le Fauconnier. In 1916, she associated with the Suprematist group and Kazimir Malevich. She imbued politics into her works after the revolution, changing her views from an upper-class background to very much a comrade. She spent her later years stage set designing and teaching at the Vkhutemas, the Russian state art and technical school established by Vladimir Lenin. Popova died young of scarlet fever in 1924. |
