Edward Mateusz Römer

1848-1900 Russia/Portraiture-Landscapes

 

Brief Biography-Edward Mateusz Jan Oktawiusz Römer of Vologda, Russia, was the younger brother of the artist Alfred Isidore Romer. He worked mostly in Belarus but studied first with Kanuty Rusiecki in Vilnius. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and went on to the Munich Academy of Fine arts. He worked out of his studio in Vilnius with his elder brother for a couple of years before marrying into nobility in Belarus. The last years of his life were spent in Lunna, Belarus, where he enjoyed wealth and a successful career as a painter throughout Northern Europe.
