Julio Ruelas

1870-1907 Mexico/Symbolism

Brief Biography-Julio Ruelas, engraver and draughtsman, was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, and lived in Mexico City from the age of six. He studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes, before going to Germany where he studied under the artist Meyerbeer, and at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, he also visited the Netherlands. It is evident in some of his paintings that he was influenced by the works of Arnold Bocklin. Back in Mexico he illustrated for the then renowned Modern Magazine.
