Herman Saftleven the Younger

1609-1685 Holland-Baroque

 

Brief Biography-Herman Saftleven from Gorinchem settled in Utrecht in 1632. He was trained by his father Herman and elder brother Cornelis. He specialised in barn scenes but painted a considerable amount of landscapes, notably of the Rhine valleys and the city of Utrecht. Engraving and etching was another of his specialties. Over 1200 of his drawings are still in existence.
