Brief Biography-Herman Saftleven from Gorinchem settled in Utrecht in 1632. He received his training from his father, Herman and elder brother Cornelis. He specialized in barn scenes but painted a considerable amount of landscapes, notably of the Rhine valleys and the city of Utrecht. Engraving and etching were his other specialities. Over 1200 of his drawings are still in existence. |
