Johann Gottfried Schadow

1788-1862 Germany-Romantisism

 

Brief Biography-Friedrich Wilhelm Schadow was from Berlin where he studied at the Berlin Academy and was later made a professor. He specialised in portraiture and painted portraits of the Prussian royal family. He became a director of the Dusseldorf Academy in 1826; one of his many successful students there was Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. He undertook religious commissions in Rome and for churches in Germany.
