Domingos António de Sequeira

1768-1837 Portugal/ Historical painter and designer

 

Brief Biography-Domingos António de Sequeira was born in Lisbon. He showed his artistic abilities at an early age and soon entered the Lisbon Academy. In 1788, he moved to Rome to study under Antonio Cavallucoi, there he became a member of the Academy of Saint Luke. His success in Rome gained him numerus commissions when he returned to Portugal, which led to royal patronage. He did lithography in Paris during his career. As head of the Portuguese Academy, he dedicated his time to religious works in Rome, where he died in 1837. The National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon houses many of his works.
