Adriaen Van Utrecht

1599-1652 Flemish/Baroque

Brief Biography-Adriaen Van Utrecht, a painter of still-life, was born in Antwerp in 1599. He studied with the artist and art dealer Herman de Ryt; however, Frans Snyders was his primary influence. In his later life, Jan Fyt and Jan de Heem's influences are evident in his works. Utrecht travelled to Germany, France, Italy and Spain, where Philip IV commissioned his paintings. Jacob Jordaens was known to have inserted staffage into some of his pictures. Utrecht died in 1652. His paintings hang in notable galleries worldwide.
