Willem van Aelst

Brief Biography-Willem van Aelst was from a wealthy family in Delft, where his uncle tutored him. He went to France and Florence when he was eighteen and became a court painter to the de’ Medici family in 1649. He eventually settled in Amsterdam, where he taught Rachel Ruysch and other noted artists of his time. He is one of the most prominent Dutch still-life artists to this day.
