c. 1598-1654 Italy/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Alessandro Algardi was born in Bologna and became a disciple of Lodovico Carracci before moving to Rome in 1625. He was a rival of Bernini. However, Bernini influenced his work, albeit in a more sombre tone. Nevertheless, Pope Innocent X favoured his work, and his commissions exceeded Bernini’s during his later years. Portrait busts were his most outstanding works. |
