Alessandro Allori
1535-1607 Italy/Mannerism
|
Brief Biography-When he was five, Alessandro Allori, called Bronzino, was adopted by Agnolo Bronzino and received early instruction in painting. Allori painted history but excelled in portraiture and adhered to the teachings of his master while taking influence from Michelangelo, particularly with his Last Judgment painting in Rome. Many of his paintings are in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
His son Cristofano Allori (1577-1621), occasionally called Bronzino, a pupil of his father in his youth and later of Santi di Tito, became a celebrated portraitist. Correggio and Caravaggio influenced his work, and his famous paintings Saint Julian and Judith with the Head of Holofernes are in the Pitti Palace Florence. |
