|
Brief Biography-Giuseppe Arcimboldo was from Milan. He came from a highly respected family, including archbishops, and his father, Biagio, was a painter who worked at the cathedral. When Arcimboldo was thirty-six, he was appointed court painter to Ferdinand I in Vienna and subsequently became court painter to Maximillian II at the court in Prague. He is famed for portrait heads made up of fruit, vegetables, plants, and animals; some were like palindromes. In addition, he did a series of wildlife and nature studies. Emperor Rudolf commissioned much of his work, making him the court decorator. |
