Hans Anton Aschenborn

1888-1931 Germany/Namibia/South Africa

 

Brief Biography-Hans Anton Aschenborn was a painter, illustrator, and poet. Born in Kiel, Germany, he travelled to Namibia c. 1912 and worked on a farm that he purchased, and in 1920, he moved to South Africa. His paintings were primarily of African Wildlife. In 1921, he returned to Germany, where he spent the remainder of his days. Aschenborn is famous in Namibia and South Africa, with streets named after him. His son Dieter and grandson Ulrich are also renowned artists.
