After tuition from his sculptor father, Ambrogio, He became a disciple of Battista Franco Veneziano, who instructed him in painting and his uncle, the architect, Bartolomeo Genga guided his perspective. However, the religious works of Correggio and Raphael were his strongest influences. He spent four years in Rome working with Federico Zuccari decorating the palace of Belvedere for Pope Pius IV until a rival poisoned him, which affected his health. He returned to Urbino and could only work two hours a day. Barocci was the most prominent artist to come out of Urbino in his time. Works by him are in several European cities today. |
