Brief Biography-Charles William Bartlett was born in Bridport, Dorsetshire, England. He started to be a chemist; however, he decided that art was his passion and enrolled in the London Academy of Art. Bartlett went on to study at the Académie Julian in Paris under Gustave Boulanger and Jules Joseph Lefebvre.
On returning to England, Bartlett married, but unfortunately, both his wife and son died in childbirth. He subsequently travelled Europe with Frank Brangwyn from Wales for several years. While travelling around Europe, he focused his art on peasant life. |
