Johann Heinrich Baumann
1753-1832 Latvia/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Johann Heinrich Baumann was born in Jelgava. His family were religious and sent him to study theology in Erfurt, and it was there that he began his art studies. On returning home, Baumann ceased any spiritual ambitions in favour of art. Baumann travelled widely, and as a hunter, he mainly painted animals and hunting scenes. He was also known as a writer of his travelling experiences and was successful as a Latvian playwright. Unfortunately, only 43 of his many works are extant. |
