Jacopo Bellini
c. 1400 c. 1470 Italy/Early Renaissance
|
Brief Biography-Jacopo Bellini from Venice was the father of Gentile and Giovanni, who became two of the most renowned artists of the Renaissance. He was also the father-in-law of Andrea Mantegna, whom he had taught in Padua.
Jacopo was apprenticed to Gentile da Fabriano and later established his atelier in Venice, where he instructed his two sons. Unfortunately, most of his paintings were lost, and only a small number of his works survived. He is, however, regarded as one of the progenitors of renaissance art. |
