Bernardo Bellotto
1720-1780 Italy/Rococo
|
Brief Biography-Bernardo Bellotto was a nephew and disciple of Canaletto.
His early works bore Canaletto’s influence. Later he acquired his unique style, which was less colourful but had a hint of Dutch-style landscapes.
He perfected the use of the camera obscura in Venice. Then, in 1742, he left Venice for good and went to Rome, Dresden, and Vienna. He was successful in receiving commissions in every city. Eventually, in 1764 he settled in Warsaw, where his work developed a warmer touch. He spent his last years in Warsaw. His brother Pietro became a successful portraitist in France. | |
