Eugène Boudin
1824-1898 France/Impressionism
|
Brief Biography-Eugène Louis Boudin was from Deauville near the port of Honfleur in northwest France. His father was a sailor, and Eugene’s early life was seafaring until he found an interest in painting. With the sea in his blood, he became a marine artist, and in 1850 he won a scholarship that permitted him to go to Paris.
He became friends with the Dutch artist Johan Jongkind who strongly influenced his work. Jongkind persuaded him to paint en plein air, and he later became friends with Claude Monet, who influenced him. He exhibited regularly in Paris, winning several awards, and by 1892 he became a knight of the Légion d’Honneur. He toured Europe at length throughout his life before finally settling in Deauville. | |
