|
Brief Biography-Hermenegildo Bustos, or José Hermenegildo de la Luz Bustos Hernández, to be exact, was born in Purísima del Rincón, Mexico. He worked in several trades as a youth and painted his first recorded portrait of the parish priest Vincente Arriaga when he was eighteen. In 1850, Bustos had short but haphazard tuition with the portraitist Juan Nepomuceno from León. In 1858, his portrait of Mexico’s renowned President, Benito Juárez, gained him notability; however, after the Mexican Revolution, he was more nationally recognised. Many of his works were exhibited internationally during the twentieth century. Today, the municipal seat of Purísima del Rincón, Purísima de Bustos, is in his name. |
