Adriano Cecioni

Brief Biography-Adriano Cecioni from Florence was one of the most prominent artists of the Macchiaioli movement. They tended to paint en plein air while using a technique with patches or spots. He studied under Aristodemo Costoli at the Florentine Academy. He engaged in the Italian war of independence along with Telemaco Signorini in 1859. In Naples, he helped form the School of Resina with Giuseppe de Nittis, which the Macchiaioli group influenced. He worked as an art critic, and shortly before his death in 1886, he was a Professor of Drawing at the Istituto di Magistero Femminile. |
