Nicolas Coustou

Brief Biography-Nicolas Coustou studied under his uncle Antoine Coysevox in Paris and at the Académie de France in Rome. He was a full member of the Académie Royale in Paris by 1693 and later became a professor. His younger brother Guillaume I was responsible for the Marly Horses, now at the Champs-Élysées. Guillaume I’s son Guillaume II also became a notable sculptor who mainly worked for churches and became an Academician in 1742. The style of Coysevox influenced the whole family. Coysevox is famed for his statues in Versailles’ gardens, particularly his portrait busts. |
