Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder

c. 1570-c. 1641 Belgium/Baroque

 

Brief Biography-Jérôme Duquesnoy the Elder is famous for the Brussels landmark Manneken pis fountain (Little Pissing Man). The small statue is the only one of his works left in Brussels. The original bronze statuette is from 1619 and is at Brussels's Maison du Roi Museum. The one at the corner of rue de l'Étuve and rue du Chêne is a copy made in 1965.
Duquesnoy's two sons, François and Jérôme Duquesnoy the Younger were very successful Sculptors. François in Italy and Jérôme in Brussels.
