|
Brief Biography-Pieter Janssens Elinga was born in Bruges. In 1653, he changed his name from Janssens to Elinga. He almost certainly encountered Pieter de Hooch at some stage; domestic interiors were also his main subject. Willem Kalf is known to have influenced his stills. He lived in Amsterdam for the latter part of his life. His most famous painting is The Perspective Box. In his Interior with Painter Woman Reading and Maid Sweeping, the sun bouncing off the floor and casting shadows from furniture onto the rear walls is unique; the effect is also in the outer room behind where the painter stands. He applies the technique to most of his interiors. |
