Brief Biography-Thomas Ender, twin brother of Johann Nepomuk, was primarily a watercolourist of landscapes. In 1816, he won the grand prize for painting and was subsequently engaged in commissions by Prince Metternich and Archduke Johann. As a draughtsman, he was dispatched to Brazil on a scientific expedition in 1817 and painted many views. He later became a professor of landscapes at the Vienna Academy. With students, he made several outings to Italy, Hungary, and the Austrian Alps. He also visited Greece and Paris on study trips. His paintings are still on view in Vienna, Berlin, and Budapest. |
