Brief Biography-John Faed was born in Burley Hill, Kirkcudbrightshire. He painted miniatures as a child before going to Edinburg in 1841. His historical and religious subjects led him to achieve full Academic status at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1847; he also painted genre scenes. John went to London in 1862, where he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy for eighteen years. He spent his last years at his birthplace and died in Gatehouse of Fleet, Scotland, in 1902.
