Jacob Elias la Fargue

1735-c. 1771 Holland/Rococo

Brief Biography-Jacob Elias la Fargue was born in Voorburg, Holland. He was from a family of artists, his older brother Paulus Constantijn being the better-known. The other artists in the family were Maria Margaretha, Karel, and Isaac Lodewijk. Constantijn, with whom he worked, primarily influenced Jacob. He painted scenes in Haarlem, Amsterdam, and Utrecht. In The Hague, where he also painted, he became a member of the Confrerie Pictura club. Artists discontented with the Guild of Saint Luke founded the club. La Fargue lived in The Hague for the remainder of his life.
