Paulus Constantijn la Fargue

1729-1782 Holland/Rococo

Brief Biography-Paulus Constantijn la Fargue was the second eldest of a family of painters. He tutored his younger brother Jacob Elias, whom he later worked with on numerous commissions for nobility. His work varied from portraits to townscapes and landscapes; he also painted historical and genre pieces. He painted many scenes in The Hague, where he joined the Confrerie Pictura club with Jacob Elias. His work took him to most of the significant towns in Holland, where he painted various townscapes. His drawings, however, were rated with somewhat higher esteem than his paintings. He died in Leyden in 1782.
