Eugène Fromentin

Brief Biography-Eugène Samuel Auguste Fromentin was born in La Rochelle in 1820. Besides painting, he was an art historian and critic who wrote several books on art. In addition, he visited Algeria, which greatly inspired his interest in Orientalism. His initial training was with the landscape artist Louis Cabat, and the works of Eugène Delacroix later influenced his style. However, his most noted work is the novel Dominique. He died in La Rochelle in 1876. |
