John Gast

1842-1896 America

 

Brief Biography-John Gast was born in Berlin in 1842. His family emigrated to America and settled in Missouri. After study trips to Germany and France, John moved to New York in 1870. He became successful as a lithographer, where he produced many works, including his famous American Progress painting. It became a symbol of America’s new-age advancement. He died in Brooklyn, New York, in 1896.
