Orazio Lomi Gentileschi

Brief Biography-Orazio Lomi Gentileschi was born in Pisa in 1563. His half-brother Aurelio Lomi first tutored him, and he became a follower of Caravaggio, whom he knew in Rome, painting close to his style. Before going to Paris in 1624, he worked in Genoa and Florence, gaining high esteem. Finally,Van Dyckinvited him to England, where Charles I engaged him as Court Painter. Orazio spent his last years in England and died in London in 1647. His works remain throughout Europe’s galleries, and some are in America. His son Francesco, who accompanied him to England, was also an artist; he painted historical subjects. His daughter Artemisia was one of the first renowned female artists of the Renaissance. |
