Pierre-Narcisse Guérin

Brief Biography-Pierre-Narcisse Guérin from Paris was a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault. He became Director of the French Academy in Rome, where he had studied under Joseph Benoit Suvée. His strong influences were Jacques-Louis David and the style of Neoclassicism. Three of his students were Théodore Géricault, Eugène Delacroix and Léon Cogniet. He received the cross of the Légion d’Honneur in 1803 and was a professor at the Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 1833 he travelled to Rome for health reasons and died soon after arriving. His travel companion was Horace Vernet, win 1829, was a director of the French Academy in Rome. |
