Joseph Patrick Haverty

1794-1864 Ireland/Gerne

Brief Biography-Joseph Patrick Haverty was born in Galway in 1794. History could have documented his life better. However, records tell he moved to Dublin in 1815, and the Royal Hibernian Academy admitted him in 1829. He travelled much and visited London in pursuit of commissions. Some of his paintings have political or religious connotations. The church commissioned Haverty to paint altarpieces that sadly no longer exist. It was unusual at the time as they rarely commissioned Irish artists. His paintings fetch considerable prices today.
