Francis Hayman

Brief Biography-Francis Hayman was born in Exeter, England, in 1708. Remembered for his paintings at the Vauxhall Gardens, he was also an illustrator and scene painter in Covent Garden; Hayman worked with Gainsborough and influenced him greatly as a portraitist and historical painter. The Society of Artists elected him President in 1760, and he later co-founded the Royal Academy, becoming its librarian. One of his many noted students was Nathaniel Dance-Holland. |
