Jan Davidszoon de Heem
1606-1684 Netherlands/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-Jan Davidszoon de Heem was born in Utrecht in 1600. Some class him as Flemish as he settled in Antwerp in 1636 for the remainder of his life. His father, David De Heem, a painter of still-life flowers, gave him his initial tuition, and Pieter Claesz influenced him. Jan mainly painted still-lifes of flowers, fruit, and vases, and his glass goblets were unsurpassed by any other Flemish or Dutch artist. Cornelius, one of his sons, also became a successful still life painter. |
