Georg Friedrich Kersting

1785-1847 Germany/Romanticism

Brief Biography-Georg Friedrich Kersting was born in Güstrow, Germany in 1785. He studied at the Academy of Copenhagen. He went to Dresden in 1808, and after a spell in the Prussian army and Poland, he settled in Meissen, where he was assigned Superintendent at the Meissen porcelain factory. Kersting became a close friend of Caspar David Friedrich, who profoundly influenced his work. He famously produced a dinner set with battle scenes for King Frederick Augustus to present to the Duke of Wellington. Kersting died in Meissen in 1847.
